Victory against Hilden

If you are into the German U11 girls soccer scene of the Lower Rhine Division you will undoubtedly know what a team Hilden is. Hilden is strong and mean and hard to win. Well, my DD's team licked it today. YAY.

By golly, this was one strong game! The Hilden gals are no sissies and play a combination of Kung Fu and soccer, I have shots to prove that! They jump into their opponents' faces and whether or not teeth are being knocked out is none of their care, so I have heard and so it seemed to me once. The last game DD played against Hilden in the U11 was in April or May and they lost 4:0.
Today's game looked a lot like soccer and I am just so glad you won.
You worked a lot for the team, you ran at least 8 miles during the match and were the only player on the field that played two entire halves. Did I say I am glad you won? I think I didn't. Well, I am.

3 Christmas QPs for Amanda Thorderson

Amanda asked for some QPs to give away at Digitals... this is my contribution.

The Long Haul

Marlen

You look like nothing much to be afraid of. You are eight years old and about 3,7 feet.
Last season every player in the U11 league underestimated you. If anyone wants to get
near the goal they will have to come up with something really special because you are one mean defender. You mean to defend that goal and you do. You are incredibly fast with your relatively short legs and minimal height. When you run, you are invisible sometimes, there is just this cloud of dust around you.
This season, word has gotten around, as a lot of girls have had their experiences with you.
And now they call you the machine.

Those girls of the other team had a ghouly Halloween game... your coach bullied the referee Juventus style. Is that normal?

Soccer At Clontarf Park

Some more soccer shots from Oz. The game was great though. In Australia the girls play full rules, full field and full team. This is so much better than playing half field, with 7 players and reduced rules. Once they players are 17 they have to completely learn to deal with the space of a full pitch.

New Kit by Amanda Thorderson

Here

Another LO with a photo from that memorable game in Dusseldorf Flingern back in May. The team's goalie didn't show for the game... well.... one girl wanted to go into the goal by all means just to declare after the first half that she could by no means stay in the goal... well... so my DD went in....

Left, Right and Center

Where was your team? Flingern was shoting at that goal: left, right and center....
They later wrote you did a goalie job like Ollie Kahn when he was young and good.
You're an awesome little lady, you have all my respect and I will support your decisions even though I sometimes doubt them. I am standing up for you. You lost this game, but remember the Alamo, remember you're from Texas:

YOU CAN LOSE AND STILL WIN!

* Strain the lemon peels out of the alcohol and then mix the alcohol with the sugar-water. Usually the color of the alcohol changes from clear yellow to cloudy yellow when it’s combined with the sugar-water.

* Pour the mixture into bottles which can be sealed tightly and store them in the freezer. If the limoncello is kept “frozen” until serving it becomes thick and syrupy.

Here is a simple LO with a candid shot from a Catholic pilgrimage town in the very west of Germany, close to the Dutch border... It's the kind of shot I wouldn't think of 'Germany' first but maybe some other country...

Yeah, congrats Hertha MĂ¼ller!

Thanks for writing for all the uprooted, 2nd class citizens here and elsewhere!!

For writing down, down, down some representative stories of all the stories untold and for your integrity.

Here is someone who knew exactly what you meant when you were on the radio and when you said that the one that goes does not come back...... about changing... and returning... about the 4th class citizenship.... about the curse of being some ethnicity... bless ya, gal!

Special thanks for not working for Securitate!!

You rock. Big time!

Don'tcha

QUOTE
As soon as the weather turns, I just want to snuggle up with a big chair, my favorite throw and my laptop. Anyone else like this? Our instincts to spend more time indoors, to create more, to fill our lives with warmth is 100% natural. However, come January you may have turned into a scrapping (or knitting or sewing or TV-watching) hermit.

There was a great discussion over in the Sweet Shoppe forums with this question: is it possible to scrap too much? My answer is yes. It’s all about balance and the chilly days can upset that harmony you’ve spent all year creating. Are you eating the right things? Are you getting enough exercise? Are you spending enough time having fun with your family?

This post will offer 8 tips for making sure you stay healthy and sane throughout the fall and winter.

1. Get outside. I don’t care how cold it is. You have a jacket and a hat and a scarf and some gloves right? Dress til your warm and stock up on that Vitamin D.

2. Exercise regularly. Before it gets too nippy, use the crisp fall evenings to do some raking or plant those fall bulbs. Get the family involved too.

3. Bring your camera. Are your fall and winter photos limited to Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas? Buck that trend by toting your camera along on your everyday adventures.

4. Limit your online time. If I have a deadline, I’ll do everything I can to meet it, doing only what is necessary to get there. Self-impose limits to your online time so you don’t get lost in the Web.

5. Scrap offline.
Keep your forum-discussing, gallery-commenting, blogging, tweeting, Facebooking and online shopping time separate from your scrapping. Make your creative time a special retreat by disconnecting from the outside world.

6. Turn off the TV. If creative time is important to you, but you’re falling short on the hours, take stock of where your minutes go. Can you DVR a favorite show and watch it later? Can you turn off a show that doesn’t feed your soul?

7. Slow down. While that crafty energy is at its peak, slow down in other areas to make it all work. Use the slow cooker more often and schedule padding time for every activity.

8. Reduce your expectations. At the end of the year, its easy to feel compelled to catch up. Scrap one story at a time and remember, you’re never behind.

These are just a few ways to make sure your shorter days are filling up in just the right way. It’s all about finding that sweet spot of cozy fulfillment and productive energy. How do you shift gears this time of year?

Install Actions in Photoshop Elements 6 on XP

How to Install Actions/Effects in Photoshop Elements 6 on XP

Installation Path:

* Start Menu
* My Computer
* Local Disk (C:) (This could possibly be a different letter, but is usually C and most likely will be your computer’s root directory.)
* Documents & Settings
* All Users
* Application Data (If you don’t see this, it’s probably hidden. Go to Start/Control Panel/Classic View/Folder Options/Viewand select Show Hidden Files & Folders)
* Adobe
* Photoshop Elements
* 6.0
* Photo Creations
* Photo Effects (This folder is used for this specific example. Depending on the action, you might choose a different folder to store it in. This choice will affect the way you access the action in PSE 6.)

Installation Technique:

1. Make sure PSE 6 is closed
2. Download action files from source website to your computer. I usually download to my desktop and then cut and paste the files to the appropriate folder (the Photo Effects folder in this case).
3. You should have one file ending in the .ATN suffix and one ending in the .PNG suffix. Each file should have exactly the same name, except for the suffix. If the names are different, right click on one of them to rename to the name of the other.
4. If you have a .PSD file instead of a .PNG file, open the PSD in PSE 6 as you would any other image. Go to the File menu, select Save As, and change the Format to PNG.
5. Open PSE 6 and open an image.
6. Look at the Effects Palette, usually on the right side of the screen. If the Effects Palette is not visible, go to the Windows menu and click on Effects.
7. Click on the Photo Effects button (3rd from the left under the word Effects). In the drop-down list to the right of this button, select Show All.
8. Click on the double arrow above the Show All box and select Show Names.
9. You should see a new thumbnail that looks like the PNG file you copied into the Photo Effects folder. (You can always open this PNG like any other image in Photoshop to see what it should look like in the Effects Palette.) This thumbnail will have the name of the action below it. If you can’t find the new action, see Gotchas section below.
10. To run the action, double click on the thumbnail. Make sure an image is open and enjoy!

Possible Gotchas:

* New action is not in Effects palette after restarting Photoshop

1. Close PSE 6 and re-open it while pressing the shift key. Repeat steps 5 and 9.
2. If the action still isn’t present, you will need to delete the MediaDatabase.DB3 file. Don’t worry – Photoshop will rebuild it the next time you open the program. However, it’s a good idea to copy the file to your desktop as a backup, just in case something crazy happens.
3. To find this file, follow the installation path above, stopping when the 6.0 folder is open. From there, select Locale/en_us. Find the MediaDatabase.DB3 file, copy it onto the desktop, then delete it. (I assume that folks speaking the Queen’s English would select the en_gb folder, but I am not at all sure about this!)
4. Re-open PSE 6. It will open quite slowly this time as the database is being rebuilt.
5. If the new thumbnail still hasn’t appeared in the effects palette, restart your computer.

* If the thumbnail for the new action does not work when you double click it and there is a blank thumbnail with the name of the action under it, the name of your .ATN file and the .PNG file are probably different. Go back to the Photo Effects folder and make sure that the names are exactly the same except for the suffix.
